The three-day mega cultural festival, Mondei-2013, took off at Mondei ground here on Wednesday. Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Ramesh Majhi along with Collector and Chairperson of District Council of Culture Yamini Sarangi, legislators Bhujabal Majhi, Manohar Randhari and Subash Gond and Zilla Parisad president Motiram Naik performed puja in the Maa Bhandargharani temple before the march of the colourful carnival.

During the Mondei Carnival on Mahatma Gandhi Marg, tribal folk dancers and tribal musical troupes from different parts of the district performed. Besides, various tribal fancy shows were performed in the first day’s road show. Foreign tourists also joined in the carnival.

While Majhi, Sarangi and other dignitaries marched with the carnival, the legislators and other public representatives of the district were found dancing to the beats of traditional drums and musical instruments.

The carnival reached Mondei Rangamanch in the evening for the inauguration function scheduled to be held at night. The District Millers Association has taken the responsibility of providing food to hundreds of artistes who have been pouring in the town since Tuesday. The association has made elaborate arrangements for the purpose.
