Jumbo herd returns

The herd of 11 wild elephants, which had entered Rourkela city a fortnight back, has been spotted in border villages of Bisra block in Sundargarh district.

Bisra Range Officer SC Sahani said the herd comprising three adolescent males, five females and three calves on Friday entered Birkera village and damaged the house of one Munu Kujur and on Saturday damaged the houses of Budhu Munda and Pradhan Munda at Sanramloi village. The family of Budua Munda was left in a lurch after the elephants ate all food grains and damaged the utensils.

Sahani said the animals were driven from the villages and were last seen near Jharkhand border.

Affected villagers demanded provision of interim relief from the Forest department.
