ASI suspended for beating up wife

Another woman torture case rocked Balasore on Thursday. A woman was allegedly beaten up mercilessly and thrown on the road by her husband, a cop. The accused Gobinda Chandra Nayak (48), an ASI with Balasore Reserve Police was arrested and placed under suspension.

Police said the victim Sabita Nayak (30) of Sajanagarh under Nilagiri police limits was rescued by an NGO while she was lying unconscious on the road in Lokanath Vihar here. After coming to senses, she said  Gobinda, who had married Sabita six years back after death of his first wife, used to torture her.

Sabita, police said, had come to Balasore to consult a doctor for her swollen ear. The incident took place when she went to meet Gobinda, who was in his Lokanath Vihar house, seeking money for her treatment.

She alleged on reaching the house she saw her husband with another woman. “When I raised alarm, he beat up me mercilessly before throwing me on the road,” she alleged.   She met SP Amrita Dash who placed the ASI under suspension.
