Pipe water supply for 1,000 tribal villages

The State Government on Wednesday decided to provide pipe water supply to 1,048 tribal villages in the next three years. The decision was taken at a high level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The Government will make a budgetary provision of Rs100 crore for the project which will benefit about one lakh population in tribal dominated Kandhamal, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts.

Meanwhile, 8,470 pipe water supply projects are providing safe drinking water to 32,785 villages.

The Rural Development department has taken up 1,300 rural water supply projects during the current financial year.

Besides, 845 gram panchayat headquarters will be covered under pipe water supply.
