A 20-year-old woman Maoist surrendered before the district police here on Thursday. She has been identified as Nila Nachika alias Savita of Balkpai village under Narayanpatna block of Koraput district.

Nila had joined the Srikakulam-Koraput committee of the CPI(Maoist) in 2008 and a year later, underwent arms training at Narayanpatna. Since then, she has been working with Maoist leaders Daya and Aruna. Police said she was allegedly involved in five murder cases and other Maoist related violence.

On Thursday morning, Nila surrendered before Koraput SP Aswini Kumar. She said she took the decision of surrendering after being harassed by senior cadres in the outfit. “We were discriminated as only Telugu cadres got promoted to higher ranks. The Telugu cadres indiscriminately killed innocent villagers in Koraput who did not agree to their demands. Besides, Maoist cadres from Chhattisgarh often harassed tribal girls in the outfit,” she told mediapersons.  On the occasion, Koraput SP assured all possible steps by the government to rehabilitate the surrendered woman cadre.
