KVIC official held for taking Rs 5,000 bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on Monday arrested an official of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) while he was accepting a bribe of ` 5,000 from a loan applicant. Bhimsen Nayak, a district coordinator with KVIC, had sought the gratification for granting  ` five lakh loan to Nilakantha Mansingh, a resident of Begunia in Khurda.

After the CBI was tipped off about it, a trap was laid and Nayak was arrested. He will be produced before a court on Tuesday.

In a separate incident, Allahabad-based Rajendra Kumar Somkar was arrested by CBI 15 years after he decamped with around ` one crore by conning people. Somkar had opened an office in the City in 1998 and floated an advertisement seeking agencies for LPG of Birla and Modi companies. He took security deposits and disappeared. He was finally held from Allahabad and brought here  on Monday.
