One arrested, arms seized

Police arrested one Sradhakar Behera (27) alias Babu of Shantinagar in Sambhalpur town and recovered firearms including two mousers besides seven live cartridges from him on Wednesday.

Talking to mediapersons, Sambalpur Sadar SDPO PK Mohapatra said police were on look-out for the youth. Acting on specific intelligence report, Behera was picked up while moving in suspicious condition in Fatak area. When he was searched, a mouser was found. Interrogation led to recovery of two more firearms and ammunitions.

The SDPO said Behera was wanted in four cases under Ainthapali police limits in the town.

He revealed that his brother-in-law, Rajesh Sahu, who is an arms peddler and a notorious criminal presently behind bars had supplied the firearms to him.

Police suspect that the accused could also be involved in arms peddling and the matter is investigated.
