Fourteen Indian Soft Shell water turtles were seized from one Sekhar Jena of Madanpur village here on Saturday.
On a tip off, forest officials nabbed Jena from his village and found the turtles packed in a jute bag from his possession.
He had collected the turtles from the Hansua river. During interrogation, Jena said that he had planned to supply them to Kolkata. He was produced in a local court which remanded him in judicial custody.
Forest officials are smuggled from the district to neighbouring districts as they are used for manufacturing some rare medicines.
