Orissa High Court lawyers oppose stir

As the State Government on Thursday invited the striking lawyers of Western Odisha for talks, lawyers of Orissa High Court opposed the agitation for establishment of a permanent bench in that region. The HC Bar Association also decided to cease work tomorrow as a token protest.

 Law Minister Maheswar Mohanty said in the capital that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will hold discussion with the representatives of Central Action Committee (CAC) of lawyers on August 24. ‘’We hope the discussion will bring normalcy in Western Odisha,” he said.

 The High Court Bar Association today joined issue   terming the move for a permanent bench in Western Odisha as ‘undemocratic’. The Bar voiced opposition to the stalling of the ULB poll machinery in the districts, accusing the politicians of “throttling the democratic process”.
