A 13-year-old student died after being run over by a truck near Radio Station Chhack here on Thursday.
The accident occurred when Partha Sarathi, a Class VIII student of Central School here, was on his way to the school. The truck hit him from behind and when the boy fell down, it ran over him. He was rushed to Balangir Hospital and later shifted to VSS Medical in Burla where he succumbed.
Following the incident, locals set the truck on fire and blocked the NH-26 demanding stringent action against the driver who is absconding. They also demanded construction of a by-pass road and compensation for the family of the deceased.
The agitators were pacified after Balangir Sub-Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan, SDPO Narayan Naik and Town police station IIC Srimanta Barik intervened.
