Woman ZP member humiliated

Amid nationwide outrage over violence against women, a woman member of Zilla Parishad (ZP) was on Friday misbehaved in public by an unruly man at Rangeela Chowk under Tangarpali police limits here.

According to reports, the ZP member of Lathikata-B constituency in Sundargarh district Sunita Kishan along with her woman relative had gone to the Chowk for shopping at around 4.50 pm. Her relative went to attend nature’s call at an isolated area near a welding shop. Taking offence to it, the owner of the welding shop Manish Sharma accosted the ZP member and hurled abuses at her in full public view.

When a shop-keeper came to the rescue of Sunita, Manish allegedly threw a scissor at him but it missed the target. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Sunita said she felt humiliated by the abusive language used by Manish in the public place. Rourkela SP AN Sinha said Tangarpali police have been instructed to inquire into the incident and take appropriate action.
