Kulda mine mishap toll rises to 12

Twenty days after the mishap at the coal overburden dump site of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) at Kulda mines in Sundargarh district, the search operation on Friday evening led to recovery of a skeleton. With this, the death toll in the mishap has gone up to 12.

Hemgir IIC Banita Majhi identified the body as that of missing youth Dilu Sanne. Majhi said the death toll now stands at 12. A girl, Mamata Majhi, who is missing, is still feared trapped and the search operation would continue, she added.

On August 10, many villagers who were digging coal at the base were trapped after the partial collapse of mountainous coal overburden dump under Basundhara-Garjanbahal Area of MCL in Hemgir block.
