More than 200 residents of the town on Friday staged a demonstration in front of Salepur Tehsil demanding Notified Area Council (NAC) status to Salepur. The people under the banner of Salepur Sachetan Nagarika Manch took out a rally from Saheswari Mandap to the Tehsil office.
They said they have been demanding NAC status since 1981. But, due to step-motherly attitude of the Government, Salepur is yet to be declared NAC despite having the pre-requisites.
They submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, Urban Development Minister and Cuttack Collector to Salepur Tehsildar Rudra Narayan Dash. They have also threatened to stage massive demonstration if NAC status is not given to Salepur within one month.
“Due to lack of NAC status, the people of Salepur have to face a lot of difficulties,” said Nanda Kishore Bhuyan, an organiser of the Manch.
