Criminals loot Rs 3 lakh from Gramya bank

Two armed miscreants looted Rs 3 lakh at gun-point from the Gramya Bank branch at Pingua under Nihalprasad police limits on Tuesday noon. They also assaulted a bank customer before fleeing with the loot.

Villagers informed the police and lodged an FIR at Nihalprasad police station.

Police said two miscreants entered the bank at 12.45 pm and asked the customers to lie down. When one of the customers, Daitari Samal, protested, they assaulted him. They then asked the bank officials to hand over the cash they had in their counters and fled on a motorcycle. Six customers and four bank staff were present during the incident.

Bank staff said an amount of Rs three lakh was taken away by the miscreants and they could not use the security alarm as it was not functioning. SP Manoranjan Mohanty said they had received the information that the miscreants fled towards Chattia in Jajpur.
