Local polls: More women to be in fray

Reorganisation of wards of Berhampur Municipal Corporation has dashed the hopes of many aspirants for the ensuing urbanbody polls. However,  reservation has opened new avenues for new women to enter the political arena. Of the 40 wards, as per the government decision, 20 have been reserved for women.

During reorganising the wards, the BMC officials did not stick to the population criterion. On the last day of the objection on the reorganisation of wards as many 50 objections were submitted. Though the mayor would have to be a woman, several organisations have urged for direct election of the post instead of nomination by the corporators.

Snatcher nabbed: Tarasing police nabbed a snatcher and recovered the loot yesterday. While one Anil Nayak of Mujagada was going with his sister on a bike, four youths in police uniform detained them near Tinichakia on the pretext of paper checking.
