Student's death triggers tension

Tension prevailed at the health centre of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in Fertilizer Township here as enraged residents sat on a dharna following the death of an engineering student on Saturday evening. They alleged that the youth died due to delay in treatment and demanded action against the doctors on duty.

Reports said the youth, Sandip Sahu, was a final year student of a Dhenkanal-based engineering college and had come here on holiday.

On Friday evening, while he along with his friends was taking food at a hotel, food stuff got stuck in his throat. His friends rushed him to the health centre and was then declared received dead at the Ispat General Hospital.

Tangarpali IIC SK Panda said after post-mortem, Sandip’s family members accompanied by local residents along with the body sat on a dharna in front of the health centre seeking action against the doctors. He said police have been deployed at the site and efforts are on to restore normalcy.
