Groom's brother killed in mishap

In a tragic incident, a marriage party met with an accident when their vehicle hit a truck near Gangapada on city outskirts in early hours of Monday leaving the groom’s brother dead.

The six-member group which comprised the bride was travelling in an SUV while the groom was in a separate vehicle. The accident took place at about 5.30 am.

Jatni Police said the groom’s brother, Mrutyunjaya Sarangi, who was driving the SUV, had apparently dozed off and lost control over the vehicle which hit the rear of the truck. The 22-year-old Mrutyunjaya died on the spot.

The bride, Rupashri Panda (23), her father-in-law Padma Charan Sarangi (50), relatives Padmavati Kar (24), Sayyan Bhatta (5) and Biswajit Sahoo (22) suffered serious injuries in the mishap.

The groom, Debabrata Sarangi, was saved due to ritualistic practice that the bride and her husband have to travel separately after marriage.
