Tribals rally for rights

Thousands of tribals armed with traditional weapons took out a rally and staged demonstration before the RDC office here in support of their nine-point charter of demands on Monday.

Led by CPI(ML) New Democracy, the tribals demanded amendment of land ceiling, homestead land for all landless families, provision of land pattas to tribal forest dwellers, survey of the number of sharecroppers in the State, minimum wages of `300 to labourers per day and stopping harassment of innocent villagers suspecting them to be Maoist supporters. They also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the RDC.
