2 held for duping bank

Crime Branch sleuths on Thursday arrested two people for allegedly duping bank officials of ` 20 lakh by submitting false land papers.

The two have been identified as Dinesh Kumar Das and Sandeep Puhan. They had started a business under the name of DP Marbels and applied for a loan of ` 20 lakh to Nayapalli branch of Allahabad Bank in 2005. As a guarantee, they submitted the papers of a land in Jharpada which they claimed to be in their name.

Problems arose when the two accused did not pay back the loan in 2010 as per the agreement. After the two failed to turn up at the bank, the bank officials decided to seize the land that they had kept as guarantee. When the officials eventually went to seize it, they found out that the papers for the land were forged and the land belonged to someone else.

The bank’s DGM P Dutta filed a case with the Crime Branch in 2011 after which an investigation was launched. After a long trail, the Crime Branch finally arrested the two on Thursday and produced them in court.
