Police on Thursday registered a case and initiated investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a 22-year-old girl of Ambagadia village under Baisinga police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
Body of the girl was found in an abandoned guest house near Rasgobindpur-Amarda airfield.
Sources said a group of youths who had gone for grazing cattle spotted the body in the guest house of Public Works Department. They informed the local gram rakhi who reported the matter to Rasgobindpur police station IIC.
Later, a team of police officials led by SDPO Anil Kumar Patra, scientific officers and a dog squad rushed to the spot.
Though the police suspected that the girl was raped before being murdered, they said post-mortem report would ascertain the cause of the death.
Villagers said the girl was taken by a youth two days back and thereafter, there was no trace of the girl.
