An under trial prisoner (UTP), accused of rape, escaped from Ragadi sub-jail in Jajpur on Saturday night. He was Birsingh Munda of Ghagiasahi under Kaliapani area.
Munda was arrested by Kaliapani Police on March 2 this year from Jajpur in connection with a rape case and he was remanded in
Ragadi sub jail after his bail plea was rejected by the local court.
Police said on Saturday all the inmates returned to their cells after having dinner except Munda. The matter came to light after the warder did not find Munda in his cell during late night inspection.
Jailer Sanatan Singh confirmed the incident and accused two of the warders of the jail of being responsible behind Munda’s escape.
A case has been filed in the local police station and cops have launched a search operation to trace out Munda.
