Petrol pump owner shot at

Miscreants on Monday opened fire at a petrol pump owner, injuring her son, during a failed dacoity bid near Paga under Jagatpur police limits.

The pump owner, Subhra Mohanty, her son Abhisek (23) and an employee were on their way to the SBI branch at Gopinathpur, about 6 km away, in their SUV when the miscreants struck. The two miscreants, riding a motorcycle, overtook the vehicle and blocked its path.

As Abhisek, who was driving the SUV, slowed down, the duo started firing on the vehicle. One bullet hit the hand of Abhisek while another shot shattered the glass  of the vehicle. With the sound drawing the attention of the locals, the miscreants preferred to flee the spot without looting the money.

Subhra was reportedly carrying `3.60 lakh  for depositing in the bank. Abhisek has been admitted to SCBMCH here for treatment while police have registered a case and started its investigations.  This is reportedly a third dacoity bid on the petrol pump owner in a decade. In 2010, about `40,000 was looted from an employee while `1 lakh was also robbed about seven years back, sources said.
