Two labourers killed in mishap

Two persons were killed in separate mishaps here on Saturday.

While one was identified as Sanju Manna, a daily labourer who was working on construction of roads at gate no.1 of Paradip Port, the other was Padmanava Moharana - another labourer working at the bagging plant of IFFCO. Sanju was work ing when a speeding four-wheeler hit her killing her on the spot.

Padmanava died on the spot after his leg slipped while he was working in the bagging plant and he fell 30 feet down. The company managed assured to provide `8 lakh to Padmanava’s kin as compensation. Paradip SDPO, Bhabani Sankar Mishra, said the errant driver of the four-wheeler which rammed into Sanju would be nabbed soon.

Mentally Challenged Man Runs Amok

Panic gripped the people of the town as one person ransacked about 45 vehicles on Saturday. An armed miscreant, Dhuna Pradhan hailing from Brindaban colony, intercepted the vehicles and demanded money from them. When they did not pay him, they were beaten up and their vehicles damaged.

Panicked, people ran helter and skelter and shop owners pulled down the shutters. Pradhan also damaged two jeeps of Paradip police station. On being informed, police took him into custody.

IIC of Paradip police station Shiv Sankar Mohapatra said Pradhan is not a mentally normal person. He has been arrested and forwarded to the court, Mohapatra added.
