Women ransack liquor shop

Peeved with inaction of district administration towards their repeated pleas, thousands of women ransacked a government country liquor shop at Laulai village under Nihalprasad police station on Tuesday.

The enraged women claimed that they had sought intervention of the administration  to close the shop which was creating disturbance in the area. But administration did not pay heed to their pleas, they added.They damaged the liquor bottles and ransacked the shop despite opposition by the shop owner. There was a scuffle between police personnel deputed there and women. SDPO AP Swain said the loss of the shop was estimated to be about ` 30 lakhs. He admitted that women of Laulai and Digambarpur villages had appealed to the administration to close the shop.

Swain said two police officials have been injured in the scuffle. Police have registered cases against the women and beefed up security to maintain law and order in the area, he added.
