Water staff to go on strike

In what could spell trouble for the common man across the State, over 13,000 staff responsible for water supply both in the rural and urban areas will go on strike from Thursday midnight to press their three-point charter of demands.

At least five different associations comprising employees of Water Supply and Sanitation as well as Public Health departments placed their demands before the State Government but talks remained inconclusive. For the last two days, they have been wearing black badges to office as a show of protest.

They have been demanding regularisation of the temporary staff, extension of retirement age from 58 to 60 and insurance coverage. If their demands are not met soon, an association member said, the gruelling summer could well turn tougher for people of the State.
