Locked man rescued

Police rescued a man on Friday who was locked up in a room by his family members for over seven years.

The man was identified as 42-year-old Kameswar Rao. On a tip off, a police team led by SDPO Shiva Subramanyam raided the house at Chidananda street and found the room locked.  After the room was opened by the family members on the order of the SDPO, Kameswar was found sleeping on a damaged bed. The condition of the room was unhygienic and dingy.

The family members said that they had to keep Kameswar locked as he is mentally ill and used to throw stones at people. According to the neighbours, Kameswar has been confined to the room for more than seven years.

Meanwhile, Kameswar was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here. No family member has been arrested.

When contacted, IIC Anirudha Routray said, “The family members are taking care of Kameswar at the hospital.  The arrest of any  family member may hamper the treatment of Kameswar.” However, police are investigating the case to ascertain the cause of his confinement.
