Water staff call off stir

A day after they struck work across the State, employees of Public Health and Rural Water Supply wings called off their stir following a meeting with  Urban Development Minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Friday.

The employees have been demanding regularisation of temporary staff, extension of retirement age from 58 to 60 and insurance coverage.

The Minister told a delegation of the leaders from five associations that the State Government is aware of their demands.

A meeting will be held on April 5 with the association leaders in which Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya, Rural Development Minister Bikram Arukh and Mishra himself will be present.

Over 13,000 staff responsible for water supply, both in the rural and urban areas of the State, are under the umbrella of the associations.
