Rs 12 crore for water supply to slums

State Government has sanctioned Rs 12.57 crore for water supply to the slums covered under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) in the City.

State Government has sanctioned Rs 12.57 crore for water supply to the slums covered under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) in the City. The funds were provided to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). The Corporation will be the nodal agency for the project. Under the scheme, water supply will be provided to the slum dwellers by constructing water stand posts or digging tubewells in their localities.

Division-I has been allotted ` 3.68 crore, Division-II ` 7.19 crore and Division-III ` 1.85 crore. Currently, the water supply to the slums is not adequate to meet the requirement of the population. BMC will provide the funds to the Public Health Department (PHD) for construction work. A senior BMC official said the work on the project will begin soon.
