Dead Woman Appointed as Teacher, Dept Clueless

BALASORE: A woman, who died 19 years back, was recently appointed as a teacher in a high school in Khaira block in the district, exposing the callousness of officials concerned. Unfortunately, the School and Mass Education Department does not know how it took place.

One Nirupama Padhi was appointed as an assistant teacher at Darshan Prasad High School at Dungura following repeated requests from the locals.

While in the letter to the school authorities, it has been mentioned that the lady teacher, who was posted in a high school at Markona, has been promoted and transferred to Darshan Prasad High School, it was later found that she had died in 1995. A resident of Basudevpur area, Padhi, who was posted in RN high school at Markona, died of cardiac arrest.

Four teacher posts in the school having student strength of 250 were lying vacant since long. As the school was managed by only two teachers, locals had demanded appointment of at least one teacher.

This apart, a list of promoted teachers in the district who have been transferred to other districts mentioned the names of retired persons. While most of them have retired years ago, some of them retired recently. Surprisingly, they have been placed in the promotion list and transferred to various schools out of districts.

Block Education Officer, Mayadhar Sahu, admitted to have received the complaint and assured of looking into it.
