Man Arrested for Duping Dentist

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested a 40-year-old man for impersonating as a CBI officer and extorting money from a city-based dental surgeon. The accused identified as Prabir Dasbabu is a native of Baripada in Mayurbhanj district.

Prabir had asked the surgeon, SR Samal, to meet him at a hotel in connection with a case which was pending against the latter at Baripada police station. Accordingly, Samal had sent his lawyer to meet Prabir in a hotel here at Rasulgarh square, where Prabir had checked-in a couple of days back.

However, Prabir failed to produce his official identity card before the lawyer, raising suspicion. Following this, Samal lodged a complaint with Mancheswar Police who raided the hotel room and arrested Prabir.

The accused has been booked on charges of extortion and impersonation. Prabir was produced in a local court here which remanded him to judicial custody.

A few days back Samal had approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) after being duped of `75 lakh by a woman and her son. Police suspect that Prabir was hired by the woman, Kumkum, who cheated Samal and threatened him to withdraw the case.
