ROURKELA: Thursday’s scuffle between two BJD members brought embarrassment to the ruling party with both of them being remanded in judicial custody over the incident.

BJD’s women wing president, Minati Debata, was arrested and sent to judicial custody over a brawl with a party member, Prakash Paswan. Paswan too was arrested and sent to judicial custody by Sector 19 police.

Zone-I DSP, PK Rout, said the woman BJD leader was arrested on the charges of voluntarily causing assault, wrongful restrain, criminal intimidation and abuse in public place.

Paswan was booked on similar charges and additionally slapped with the charge of outraging the modesty of woman.

According to reports, Minati and Paswan picked up a brawl over an issue on Thursday.

Following it, Minati allegedly slapped Paswan and also lodged a complaint at the Sector-19 police station accusing Paswan of abusing her verbally. Paswan was arrested, but admitted to hospital after he complained of illness.

Protesting Paswan’s arrest, his supporters on Friday took to the streets demanding action against Minati. Police had to register a case against her. Paswan on getting discharged from hospital,  was sent to jail on Saturday after being produced in court.

Rourkela unit BJD president AC Mohanty said after an internal inquiry disciplinary action would be recommended.
