CM Proposes NIMHANS-like Health Centre

BHUBANESWAR: The Sate Government on Monday requested the Centre to set up an institution on the lines of NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences) at Cuttack.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik drew the attention of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Harsh Vardhan, in a letter, to the proposal submitted by the State Government in August, 2012 for establishment of one such institution with an aim to upgrade the facilities for mental health and neuro sciences in Odisha.

“The proposed institution will be extremely beneficial not only for people of Odisha but also the entire Eastern region,” the Chief Minister said.  The State Government has already identified the required land for this project at Cuttack, he said.  “We also understand that P Satish Chandra, Director, NIMHANS, after visiting the proposed site and assessing the facilities available with Mental Health Institute, SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack has informed the Centre about the feasibility of setting up such an health institution in Odisha,” the Chief Minister stated in the letter.
