Contract Worker Dies in Mishap

JHARSUGUDA: A 23-year-old contractual worker of Sesa Sterlite died after falling from a height of 38 metres on Tuesday.

The worker, Sundar Raj R belonging to Chennai in Tamil Nadu, was hired as a field operator in the ash handling plant of the company by contract agency Chennai Radhan Engineering Works. Sundar was working on a watering beam at an elevation of 38 metres at 3 am when he fell down. Though he was rushed to Jharsuguda Hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the incident, other contract workers of the company ceased work demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Subsequently, the company management agreed to pay a compensation of `eight lakh to Sundar’s family.
