Varsities Asked to Submit Proposals on HS Admn Transfer

Department of Higher Education (DHE) has asked three universities to draft proposals to facilitate transfer of administration of high schools under their control to the School and Mass Education (SME) Department.

BHUBANESWAR: Department of Higher Education (DHE) has asked three universities to draft proposals to facilitate transfer of administration of high schools under their control to the School and Mass Education (SME) Department.

Vice-Chancellors of Utkal, Sambalpur and Berhampur universities have been asked to send their formal proposals to DHE in this regard. The proposals should contain a detailed report about the school’s fixed assets besides employee strength. Based on the proposals, DHE will initiate action for transferring the management rights.

SME Secretary Usha Padhee said as the Department is equipped with appropriate resources and network necessary for managing a school, all the schools should gradually be brought under their control. SME Department has additional manpower of block education officers (BEOs) and district education officers (DEOs) for effective management of schools. The universities lack such provisions.

“In fact, very soon we are going to take over the administration of schools under Water Resource and Energy departments,” she said.

The Department is also contemplating to bring the schools under the jurisdiction of Council for Higher Secondary Education to its fold.
