Maheswar Mohanty to Head Nabakalebara Panel

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Saturday constituted the Nabakalebara Infrastructure Supervision Committee (NISC) under the chairmanship former Law Minister Maheswar Mohanty and accorded him the status of a Cabinet Minister for this new assignment.

The Committee will supervise several infrastructure projects related to the Nabakalebara festival worth more than ` 1,000 crore. The other members of the committee are, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), central division, who will also be the co-chairman and the collector of Puri who would be the member secretary.

District-level officers of line departments will be the members of the committee. This was formally notified by the General Administration Department on Saturday.

The Nabakalebara festival is due to be held in July 2015. The last Nabakalebara festival took place in 1996.

The State has sought a special central assistance of `1,397 crore for the event.
