Keonjhar Food Poison Toll Rises to Five

BHUBANESWAR: The death toll caused by food poisoning in Keonjhar’s Dalimpur village has reached five with two more casualties reported at the SCB Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.

Worried over the incident, the Health department sent a two-member team, led by the ADMO of Keonjhar, to  Dalimpur and take stock of the situation. The team, however, found no residual food sample which could be sent for investigation.

Earlier on Tuesday, two more persons had died at the SCB Medical while the first death was recorded at District Headquarters Hospital on Monday.

Eight persons were hospitalised after consuming contaminated food on Sunday evening. According to reports, the family members of Sanatan Mahanta had taken rice, egg curry with a local spinach in dinner after which they fell ill. Four others, who were working in the Mahanta household, also consumed the food and were taken ill.
