BJP Panel to Probe Electoral Malpractice

BHUBANESWAR: Accusing the ruling BJD of misusing Government machinery to influence the voters in the just concluded by-poll to Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat, the State BJP on Monday constituted a committee to probe into electoral malpractice by the State Government.

The Kandhamal district administration used all the apparatus under its command to influence the voters. Self-help groups (SHGs), anganwadi workers and Asha karmis were used to garner support for the BJD candidate Pratyusha Rajeswari Singh, said BJP’s Odisha in-charge Arun Singh. The ruling party had violated all provisions of the model poll code of conduct during the campaign in Kandhamal. “We will file a complaint with the Election Commission to look into the matter and take necessary action,” said Singh.

The State BJP functionaries, who met here on Monday, constituted a six-member committee headed by Samir Mohanty to probe into the alleged irregularities and violation of model code by the BJD.

The meeting presided over by Samir Dey decided to launch membership drive from November 1.
