BJP Membership Drive from November

BHUBANESWAR: State BJP president KV Singhdeo and other functionaries of the party on Thursday left for Kolkata to attend a two-day eastern zone meeting on membership drive.

The State BJP will launch its membership drive in the second week of November after it is formally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi on November 1.

For the first time, the party is introducing the use of mobile phone and internet services for enrolment of members. The Prime Minister will be the first BJP leader to renew his membership through a mobile text message.

The membership drive is launched every sixth year. According to party constitution, every member should renew his or her membership after six years. The last membership drive was conducted in 2009.

Persons interested to be a member of the BJP will only have to call on a mobile number. Besides, the enrolment will be done through online services, available in Odia, Hindi and English, spokesperson of the party Sajjan Sharma said.

The Central Election Committee of the party has appointed State Executive Committee member and former organising secretary of Jharkhand Ranjan Patel as chief of membership drive. He will be assisted by State Secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra.
