BHUBANESWAR: Two Kawarias (Bol Bom devotees) were killed and as many seriously injured in separate road accidents in Khurda on Sunday.
The first mishap occurred when a speeding truck hit a group of Kawarias going to Lingaraj temple from behind at Totapada Chowk. While two of them died on the spot, one devotee was seriously injured in the incident.
Police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured devotee Chitta Ranjan Champati in the District Headquarters Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. Champati is a resident of Garisgada village in Kanas block of Puri district.
While one of the deceased has been identified as Subas Bairiranjan of Garisgada village, identity of the other was yet to be ascertained.
The driver of the truck managed to escape with the vehicle after the mishap. A case of negligent driving causing death has been registered and efforts are on to nab the driver, the police said.
In another incident, a Bol Bom devotee and motorcycle rider were seriously injured when the latter hit the former at Daleipata Chowk. Both of them were admitted to District Headquarters Hospital.
