Sexual Assault Charge: BOSE Instructor Held

CUTTACK:Police on Monday arrested the senior workshop instructor of Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering (BOSE) Durga Kumar Sinha who had been absconding for over a week after being accused of sexually harassing a girl student.

Sinha was nabbed from the city and produced before the court even as the premier Government-run engineering school reopened to tense atmosphere on Monday. However, there was no report of any untoward incident, police said.

The students had gone on rampage on the campus on Wednesday as the alleged sexual harassment of a first year mechanical engineering student came to light. The instructor, who had allegedly been pursuing the girl for some time, had misbehaved with her during his class on March 30. The girl had reportedly sought leave from the practical class at the workshop after Sinha allegedly took her to his chamber and misbehaved with her.

Following the incident, the students took the matter into their hands on April 1 venting their ire on school property and accusing authorities of trying to cover up the matter. The victim also filed a complaint with Mangalabag police on the day. She gave her statement before the school sexual harassment committee on Thursday.

Mangalabag police had filed a case against Sinha and were on his lookout since then.
