Youth Found Hanging in OAS Officer's Quarters

BHUBANESWAR: The body of a youth was found hanging from a tree on the premises of the official quarters of an OAS officer at Unit VI here on Wednesday morning.

The official and his wife spotted the body on their return from morning walk and informed the Capital police.

Police and forensic team rushed to the spot and began probe. The youth, said to be in his early twenties, was hanging from the branch of a tree.

Police are not ruling out murder angle in the case as liquor bottles, glasses and a waist belt were found from a playground which is situated a few metres away from the quarters.

It is suspected that the youth may have been killed by unidentified assailants on the playground who later dragged the body into the quarters by jumping over the boundary wall and hanged it on the tree taking advantage of the darkness, said a police official requesting anonymity. Autopsy reports will ascertain the actual cause of death, the official added.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. A UD case has been registered at Capital Police station and the body was sent for autopsy.
