Students Knock OHRC Doors

BHUBANESWAR: : The group of students of Rama Devi Women’s University, who were allegedly locked up in a room during the Chief Minister’s meeting on the campus earlier this week, sought intervention of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) over the issue on Saturday.

They also lodged a complaint with Saheed Nagar police against the university’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Registrar, Chairman of PG Council and some police officials who were present on the campus on the day.

The girls submitted a memorandum to the OHRC alleging that the university administration and police violated their human rights.

Officials of the university administration, though, refuted the allegation.

OSD Padmaja Mishra said though the students were called for a discussion over the issue by the disciplinary committee on Friday evening, they did not turn up. “So far, they have not come to us with any complaint of being wrongfully detained which they should, ideally,” she said.

In the evening, NSUI members burnt the effigy of BJD MLA Priyadarshi Mishra in front of his residence over the ‘human bomb’ remark. A scuffle ensued between the police and agitators following the incident.
