SALEPUR:  A local contractor was shot dead by two miscreants at Bramhanajharilo under Cuttack Sadar police limits near here on Sunday. He has been identified as Binod Bihari Das alias Tutu of Thoriasahi in Cuttack.

Tutu, who received three bullets in his stomach, was rushed to a private hospital in Cuttack where doctors declared him brought dead.

Sources said, Tutu was supervising  the construction work of his market complex located near his brother Rahas Bihari Das alias Babu’s foreign liquor shop when the incident occurred.

Two youths came on a motorcycle at about 4.30 pm to Babu’s shop located about 20 feet from Phulnakhara-Niali State Highway and ordered for liquor. After consuming liquor, the two refused to pay and started abusing the shop’s manager and salesman when they demanded the money. The miscreants in an inebriated  state opened fire randomly, injuring Tutu who was standing near the liquor shop. Soon after, the miscreants fled from the spot on the motorcycle.

Senior police officials including ACP Nimain Charan Sethy, IIC, Cuttack Sadar police station, Deba Datta Kar rushed to the spot and started investigation.

The incident is suspected to be linked with past rivalry over either some contract works or extortion of money. Tutu was into construction business but had left it about a year back to start his own business, said sources.

The case is being investigated from a different angle and mystery behind the murder will be unraveled soon, said IIC, Cuttack Sadar.
