BHUBANESWAR: In a huge embarrassment for the Opposition Congress, one of its law-makers Naba Kishore Das was caught allegedly watching obscene video in the Assembly on his smart phone on Monday.

Senior member of ruling BJD and former minister Pramila Mallick raised the issue when the House was debating the Odisha Zilla Parishad (Amendment) Bill, 2015. Drawing the attention of Speaker Niranjan Pujari, Mallick alleged that a private television channel is showing a Congress member watching ‘blue film’ in the House.

“It is very shameful that the MLA was watching obscene clips in the House and this is an affront to women,” she said and urged the Speaker to examine the matter and take appropriate action against the legislator. The former minister told reporters outside the Assembly that she came to know about the matter from a private television channel which aired the lawmaker watching the objectionable video inside the House.

Das, however, refuted the allegation and claimed innocence over the matter. “I will give a clarification in the House on Tuesday,” the Congress MLA from Jharsuguda said. Though Das admitted that a certain video opened on its own while he was surfing the internet on his mobile phone, he said, “I have never seen any adult video in my life. It appeared accidentally. I immediately shut it down after I noticed it.”
