Three Killed in Bus Accidents

PARLAKHEMUNDI/JAGATSINGHPUR/ROURKELA:Three persons died and several others were injured in three separate road mishaps at Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur and Sundargarh districts on Wednesday.

In Gajapati district, one person died when the bus in which he was travelling, overturned near Liliguda village under Mohana police limits on the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased is JJ Jena of Berhampur, while 22 persons were injured. Ten of them were critically injured.

The bus was on its way to Tikiri in Rayagada district from Cuttack when the incident occurred. Apparently, the driver failed to negotiate a curve on the road owing to thick fog.

Those injured have been admitted to MKCG Medical in Berhampur. A case has been registered.

At Jagatsinghpur district, helper of a passenger bus was killed in an accident at Dengapole on Cuttack-Machhgaon road on Wednesday.

The deceased is 55-year-old Narayan Sahu of Singitali village under Balikuda police limits. He was standing near the door of the moving bus when Sahu accidentally fell down. Subsequently, he was run over by the rear tyres of the overcrowded bus. The bus was on its way to Cuttack from Machhgaon. Balikuda police seized the body and sent it to Jagatsinghpur hospital for postmortem.

Similarly, cleaner of a bus Ranjit Munda was killed and three other passengers suffered injuries after the bus carrying them overturned near Kucheta under Chandiposh police limits in Sundargarh district. The bus was on way towards Phuljhor of Bonai sub-division when around 2.30 pm, the driver lost control and the vehicle veered off the NH-143 and overturned. The injured passengers were hospitalised.
