Rayagada Farmer Attempts Suicide by Consuming Pesticide

RAYAGADA:  A farmer Ramdas Kalaka (19) of Kodinaguda village in Rayagada block of the district allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide on Thursday. He was admitted to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition.  His sister Dei Kalaka said Ramdas has four acres of land where he cultivated cotton and ‘dal.’ Ramdas had also taken a loan of Rs 50,000 from moneylenders. Ramdas tried to commit suicide due to crop loss,  she added. Sources said Paika Sabara of Haduguda village in Ramnaguda block had allegedly committed suicide due to crop loss last month. Collector Jagannath Mohanty asked the revenue officials to enquire into the incident.
