Meera Biswal Passes Away

BHUBANESWAR: Meera Biswal, wife of former deputy chief minister Basanta Kumar Biswal, passed away at a hospital in New Delhi on Monday. She was 74.

Meera was undergoing treatment for burn injuries at Safdarjung hospital in the national capital. However, she succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours.

Initially, she was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack with burn injuries which she sustained while doing puja at home two days back. She was shifted to New Delhi for better treatment.

As per family sources, she would be flown from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar. Her last rites will be performed at Swarga Dwara in Puri on Tuesday.

Meera was widowed in 2003 following the demise of Basant Biswal. She is survived by two sons - Congress MLA from Jagatsinghpur Chiranjib Biswal and Congress MP and cricket administrator Ranjib Biswal.
