House of Tax Collector Searched

BHUBANESWAR:  Vigilance officials on Tuesday raided the residence of a Tax Collector of Jatni Municipality, Biranchi Narayan Bhattacharya on charges of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Vigilance sources said Bhattacharya joined Government service as a peon and went on to amass properties to the tune of Rs 1 crore.

Executing a warrant issued by Special Vigilance Judge, Bhubaneswar, the sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on seven locations including Bhattacharya’s ancestral house and three houses at Kusumati, building at Raja Bazar, Parvati Guest House near Kudiari Mission School, Jatni and three other houses at Bachherapatna, Daka Bangala Street, all under Jatni Municipality.

Bhattacharya’s movable and immovable assets were valued at Rs 1.4 crore.
