Rheumatology Award for Dr Mishra

BHUBANESWAR: Dr Ramnath Mishra has been conferred the award for Most Distinguished Teacher in Rheumatology by Vellore-based Christian Medical College’s Department of Rheumatology.

He received the award at a function in Vellore recently. Currently Professor with the Department of Immunology at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (SGPGI) of Medical Sciences at Lucknow, Dr Mishra is the first Odia to receive it and youngest among all the recipients.

The award acknowledges Dr Mishra’s contribution as a torch bearer and teacher of new generation rheumatology teachers in the country. He has pioneered the training of DM Clinical Immunology at the SGPGI which he joined in 1989 and trained 44 rheumatologists till date.

Many of his students are acclaimed rheumatologists serving in India and abroad.

Considered in the league of eminent physicians such as Dr AN Malviya, Prof N Chandrashekharan and Prof VR Joshi, Dr Mishra has made significant advances in the field of Reactive Arthritis, SLE and Takayasu Arthritis.

He has also received the MN Passey Award for lifetime achievement and is an elected fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
