BHUBANESWAR: The alumni meet of PG Department of English, Utkal University was held at MKCG Auditorium on the varsity premises here on Friday.
The inaugural session was attended by Professors Prabhat Nalini Das, Prafulla Chandra Kar and Subash Pani. Prof Himanshu Mohapatra delivered the welcome address while Niranjan Nayak read out the convener’s report on behalf of Dr Muralidhar Das.
A seminar on ‘State of English in Odisha: Now and Then’ was organised on the occasion in which Prof MJ Dash, Dr Dilip Naik and Dr Kalyani Samantaray touched upon various aspects of English teaching and learning in the State.
Retired teachers and staff of the department were felicitated at the event. A souvenir ‘Sansparsh’ was released on the occasion which also witnessed an interactive session with the alumni across batches. The event came to an end with performances by Indian Idol Junior winner Ananya Sritam Nanda, P Muralidhar Sharma (Kathak) and Eunoia Band.
Among others, Prof Sarat Chandra Satpathy and Editor (Odisha), The New Indian Express Srimoy Kar also spoke.
